When I was 18 years old I gave birth to my daughter and during the labour I was given epidural anesthetic. As a result of this anesthetic I was unable to feel anything which included where to push when the baby was ready to be born. The nurse told me to push and as I could not feel anything I pushed mostly with my face. This resulted in bursting blood vessels in my face with the effort. The marks left behind were unsightly and purple veins were all over both sides of my face from the eyes all the way down to my chin and across from the ears to the nose on both sides. It was most unattractive and as the years rolled by it seemed to become more and more prominent.
I was always embarrassed by the redness and veiny look to my cheeks and thought often that people may see only the “scars” and not me at all.
I used lots of make up, heavy foundation, powders etc to hide the redness but it always seemed to show. I would get very upset if anyone saw me without make up. I actually felt quite ugly most of the time.
Some people would make comments and others did not seem aware enough to even notice the scars. I would think they were only being kind to me or did not want to appear rude. Either way I was convinced that everyone saw the scars and not me. It would knock my confidence for six and I would not go out without make up on. The only time the scars did not show that much was when I had a suntan which was not very often or regular. Maybe for 2 to 3 weeks of the year.
On top of that in 1995 I was in Jamaica on holiday and on the day before leaving I was sunbathing on a deckchair by the pool and when I looked down I saw that my chest was physically bubbling in front of my eyes. I was really scared and dived into the cool water of the pool. This was deep and painful sunburn. The damage to my skin was reminiscent of that to my face. There were deep and large red veiny marks on my chest, just where you see the neck end and the breast begin, the whole area that had been burned was damaged badly and no matter what I did it showed. Some people made comments about it and others just stared. This made wearing low-cut tops difficult and unsightly.
It was most unattractive.
When I was 45 I spoke to Sheila MacLean about this and she offered to help me by giving me some IPL treatments I went to the IPL clinic and had 6 treatments on my face and upper chest area.
The results were amazing, absolutely amazing. My face and chest are now clear of all the redness, no veiny look and no unsightly scarring. I can actually go out without make up on now and the boost to my confidence is astounding.
A week after my last treatment my daughter (then 26) got married and I was able to wear a fabulously low cut dress which showed off my chest (now completely white and clear of the redness) and got masses of fabulous comments about how great I looked.
My face looks younger and healthier than it has since I was 19 years old. I am now 45 and have 4 grandchildren but since the IPL treatment people comment on how young I look and how I look too young to be grandmother. Its fabulous and I am so much happier with my physical appearance. I have even lost 20 lbs on weight watchers since my confidence has been improved.
The IPL treatment has changed my life and it could change yours too.
This is true.
