"For some time prior to seeing Sheila I was deeply unhappy with my skin; there was a turnover of a spots and blackheads which I found a relentless distraction. More than this, even in areas that were clear of spots the skin looked poor: it had childhood freckles gone wrong alongside the consequences of the years with blotches, open pores and uneven colour. Overall it looked mottled and unhealthy.

I did take this face-ache to several doctors and found they only saw it in terms of minor acne. I tried many creams (some prescription-only), skin peels and many other treatments that caught my eye.

I regret my tone with Sheila when I first phoned (I can recall being jaded and suspicious). Sheila being Sheila took no offence and I had an initial first blast. I was elated with the immediate outcome; straight away dozens of overpigmented areas were dark brown and seemed to be sitting on the surface of the skin. In the following days these were gone, leaving a wonderful nothing underneath. Over the 6 treatments this happened again and again, each time evening the look of the skin.

By the end I was delighted with the potency of the treatment to significantly alter the skin and leave it like that.

I did subsequently leave London but for 4 years have returned every 3 months for another go: no small thing given that I am now in Scotland. My reasoning is not so much Sheila's IPL machine but Sheila; she is a rare find - a pleasure to see again and exact in knowing what is needed.

I have been to three other clinics (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle - to lessen the journey) but each disappointed. They took a very standard approach (in two cases not even looking at the skin with a magnifier) and I saw minimal change. Sheila has spoilt me perhaps with her obvious interest in examining the skin, plotting it's progress and setting the machine for what is needed.
