Papaya is popular all over the world and for good reason, its delicious taste and soft texture is lovely for eating fresh, using in cooking or adding to smoothies.

The great thing about this tropical fruit is that it is rich in vitamins. Containing vitamins A, C, E, K and niacin. As well as having antioxidant properties, it is also full of minerals and other healthy things like magnesium, potassium, carotene, protein, fiber and an enzyme called papain that provides many health benefits.

You may be used to eating papaya but here are the amazing beauty benefits of putting it on your skin or hair.

Nourishes Hair

These vitamins and minerals when applied directly to your hair help it to increase in volume, thickness and shine. It even can help with baldness or split ends.

You want to make the papaya into a mask, you can do this in many ways but yogurt and coconut oil also have great benefits for your hair and these three ingredients can make an excellent mask. Rub thoroughly over damp hair after washing it as normal. Leave it in for about 30 minutes and then wash thoroughly off.

 Facial Hair Thinner

The enzyme in Papaya when used regularly can actually help to weaken the hair follicles which prevents re-growth of the hair. An excellent method of thinning out un-wanted hair.

You can either rub the Papaya directly onto your skin or you can mix it with some yogurt or coconut oil to make a paste. Leave on for a few minutes and then wash off.

Heals Dry and Cracked Heels and Feet

Papaya has a lot of moisturising properties and is excellent for your feet. If used daily it can turn those cracked heels back into soft supple skin.

If patches of your skin like your knees or elbows have turned darker then you can use papaya to lighten the skin. The anti-oxidants actually help to de-tan and lighten your skin so removing the patches.

You can take a slice of ripe papaya and simply rub it over the affected areas or you can make a blend with other helpful ingredients like yogurt and lemon.

Papaya contains the enzyme papain which has excellent skin cleansing properties. Using this on spots helps to unclog the pores and get rid of dry skin.

You can apply a slice of papaya directly onto your face, rubbing gently for a few minutes and then washing off or if you have the time and equipment you can extract the juice from the papaya and apply this with a cotton ball. Leave it for a few minutes and then wash off.

Papaya can help with cuts, bruises and burns, helping to keep bacteria away, heal the wound and prevent large scarring.

After administering any first aid needed just apply the flesh of the papaya to the wound. If it is a bruise or burn you can mash some papaya and apply it directly. If it is an open wound it may be cleaner to use a slice of papaya.

The papaya peel helps in reducing and treating the signs of aging such as wrinkles and crow’s feet. The peel contains a particular acid which has anti-ageing properties.

You can mash up and apply the papaya directly to these marks or make a paste with milk/honey/lemon etc. Leave on for a few minutes and then remove.

Papaya’s many properties make it excellent at helping to remove old and dry skin which makes it a perfect ingredient in a body scrub.

You do need to mix this into a scrub with a few other ingredients. Most recommended are mixing the papaya with honey, salt and olive oil. Use in the shower as any body scrub.

Anti-Dandruff

Papaya is an excellent ingredient to fight dandruff as it contains an enzyme which helps to stop the build-up of oil and other impurities – a large cause of dandruff.

Blend the flesh thoroughly with some yogurt. Apply this directly to your scalp and leave for about half an hour. Then wash off thoroughly in the shower.
