CO2 Laser Treatment For Acne Scars & More!

Blog, Skin Treatments

CO2 is a carbon dioxide laser resurfacing treatment that targets beams of light towards the deeper layer of your skin.

CO2 laser treatments can help those with the following concerns:

Overall CO2 treatment can encourage collagen production, tighten the skin and smoothen the skin; in some cases, the doctor or practitioner will use it alongside another non-surgical treatment for the most optimal results depending on the client’s skin conditions.

To prepare yourself for CO2 laser treatment, you will need to speak to your doctor about your medical history and follow any advice given; in most cases, pre-care involves:

Avoid tan and sun exposure four weeks before the treatment

Do not use any medication that can cause sun sensitivity

Tell your doctor if you have any new medication

The treatment can last from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the condition being treated; you can expect the following throughout the procedure:

  1. Dr Matin Ahmadi will go through your medical history and confirm your treatment plan.
  2. Numbing will be applied to the area to help reduce pain levels and help make the treatment as comfortable as possible for you.
  3. Your skin will be cleansed before the treatment begins, and you must wear protective goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beams.
  4. The treatment will then begin, and the doctor will move the wand over the area being treated simultaneously.
  5. After the treatment has been completed, the doctor may give you an ice pack or apply some ointments that will be part of the aftercare, and you will have to follow the post-care information provided.

Post-CO2 laser treatment, you can expect the area to take 1-2 weeks to heal; you can see an example of one of our client’s healing times here. You can expect the following during your recovery process:

  • Sunburn feeling alongside itching, stinging and peeling.
  • The skin may blister and become crusty (do not pick the blisters)
  • After 5-7 days, the skin will begin to peel; this is a good sign to show that the new layer of skin is coming through, and your results are on the way!

Things you can do to help during the recovery process:

  • Avoid scratching or picking the skin
  • Clean the skin as instructed by the clinic and follow all the steps
  • Once the skin heals, apply SPF that is suitable for sensitive skin as your skin will still be sensitive
