What happens in the skin to cause dark circles?

A range of factors can cause skin to darken around the eye area. This area can appear darker due to restricted blood vessels causing hyperpigmentation, or due to the thinning of skin. Dark circle can also be caused from lack of sleep, iron deficiency, high levels of sun exposure, thin skin, thyroid conditions and more. 

How do eye creams act on dark circles to treat them?


Medically prescribed products work by lightening the skin, replacing older skin with new skin and slowing down the way the body removes skin cells that may have been harmed by the sun.
 
What ingredients should you look for in eye creams to treat dark circles?
Your doctor or dermatologist will advice on medical treatment and ingredients which may range from Hydroquinone, Tretinoin, Kojic acid, Azelaic acid, Topical Vitamin C or laser therapy. 
 
Could you share tips for applying eye cream to boost their efficacy/minimise dark circles?
Squeeze about half an inch or less of the cream or gel onto your fingertips. Gently apply to the specific areas on your skin where you need it to work. The medication should fade into your skin right away until fully absorbed.
