PCOS Awareness Month

Blog, Laser Hair Removal

September is PCOS awareness month. If you are wondering what PCOS is, you can see why we need to help raise awareness. It is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Polycystic is defined as ‘multiple cysts.’ Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a medical condition whereby women’s hormones are out of balance and cysts (benign masses) begin to grow on the ovaries.

One of the problems with PCOS is that the cause of the condition is not fully understood, though one notable factor is that it does seem to run in families. Currently there is no cure and the treatment is only symptom based.

The most common symptoms for PCOS are:

  • Irregular (or no) periods
  • Reduced fertility
  • Excessive hair growth
  • Acne
  • Weight gain
  • Thinning head hair

PCOS can badly effect a woman’s confidence, as all of those things effected are at a direct contrast to what we as a society consider feminine or sexy. This leads to further symptoms such as depression and anxiety.

If you feel that you have these symptoms, then go in and see your doctor who can get you to undertake some tests and get PCOS diagnosed or ruled out as necessary.

PCOS affects about 10% of women and for that reason should be more known about. We found out first-hand how common the condition is, from the number of our clients that confided to us the reason for needing treatment, was in fact PCOS.

As a laser clinic we cannot help with the root cause PCOS but we can help those in need, deal with the devastating symptoms. Any ease of symptoms, will bring a boost in confidence and allow one to deal with the condition to the best of one’s ability. For that reason, we offer laser acne removal and laser hair removal as excellent handlings for those symptoms. As a permanent solution it is incomparable to something such as waxing or shaving.

If you are unsure how they can help check out our laser hair removal page and our acne scar removal page for more information.
