What’s the difference between Candela and Soprano laser hair removal?

With over 200 clients a week coming in for laser hair removal, a common question we are presented with is the difference between laser machines. Our senior consultant, Lucy with over 8 years experience using both Candela and Soprano technologies explains the breakdown of each laser hair removal machine to help you choose the most suitable machine for you.

Candela Gentle Max Pro laser technology

Who is suitable for this laser: Suitable for all skin types because it has two wavelengths, the Alexandrite for fair skin types 1-3 on the Fitzpatrick scale. The NDYag for darker skin types 4-6.

Not suitable for: Fine hair, blonde, red or grey hairs.

How many treatments: 8-12 treatments with 6-8 week intervals.

Cooling system: The Candela has a cryogen cooling system which blows cool air during the treatment, the temperature can be adjusted to make the treatment more comfortable.

+ Alexandrite is one of the quickest methods available with a longer wavelength suitable for a wide range of skin tones.

+ NDYag longer wavelength makes it suitable and safe for darker skin types and gives the most potential to destroy hair at the base of the hair follicle.

– Due to it’s high melanin absorption if you have a tan on the area you will have to have another patch test to ensure there is no risk for the skin.

Soprano Ice laser technology

Who is suitable for this laser: Suitable for all skin types although it is not as effective for darker skin types.

Not suitable for: Fine hair, blonde, red or grey hairs.

How many treatments: 12 treatments plus with 8-12 week intervals

Cooling system: The Soprano has a cool tip which means the hand piece is metal which creates a cooling effect and glides on the skin with the gel applied.

+ Alexandrite laser is suitable for those with fair skin and darker hair with a low risk of skin damage.

– Darker skin types usually require more treatments and as the Diode is a newer technology. There is not enough data to prove the long term results compared to other lasers.

At Pulse Light Clinic we use the Gentle Max Pro by Syneron Candela for laser hair removal. We are constantly updating our equipment to ensure clients are receiving the safest and most effective laser hair removal technology available.
