Hair Transplant London
A hair transplant is usually carried out under local anaesthetic and sedation, which means you’ll be awake but will not feel any pain.
There are 2 types of hair transplants.
Follicular unit transplantation (FUT, or strip method):
A thin strip of skin with hair is removed from the back of your head and divided into pieces, each containing 1 to 4 hairs (hair grafts) the grafts are placed into tiny cuts made in the scalp the site where the hairs are taken is closed with stitches you’ll have a scar on the back of your head, but it should not be visible unless you have very short hair. The head does not need to be shaved – only the area where the skin is removed is trimmed.
Follicular unit extraction (FUE):
At Pulse Light Clinic we use the FUE method with ARTAS hair restoration procedure. The back of the head is shaved individual hairs are removed one by one (grafts) the grafts are placed into tiny cuts made in the scalp you’ll have lots of tiny scars, but they will not be very noticeable. Hair transplants usually take a day, but you should not need to stay overnight. If a large area is being treated, you may need to have two or more treatments a few months apart.
Hair Transplant FAQs
What is the success rate of hair transplants?
Hair Transplants will be considered successful when the grafts have survived on the treated area. Medical reports indicate that 85 to 95% of implants are growing quickly in the treated area. The higher the percentage is, the more successful the treatment was.
How long does the hair transplant last?
The average time for best results will be evident after six to ten months. However, the full growth will be visible after 12 months. Hair transplants, in most cases, could last forever because new strong follicles have been implanted into the bald or thinning areas.
How much does a good hair transplant cost?
The cost of hair loss treatment with implants depends on the treated area, and the volume of implants will be needed for this area. Prices start from £5,000 in the UK; however, at Pulse Light Clinic, we assess the treating area in the consultation and create a bespoke package for each case, according to our customers end goals.
How Long Is The Downtime for Hair Loss Treatment?
Recovery time after a FUE hair restoration procedure like ARTAS® and/or NeoGraft® is much faster than traditional hair transplants, because there is no incision involved. The newly implanted grafts may feel tender and appear slightly raised at first, but this should subside in one week. You may also see some scabbing, but this should also flake off within a week. Your physician will instruct you on how to properly care for your new grafts, but most patients are able to return to their usual routine within two weeks after completing the procedure.
What Is The Best Age for Hair Transplant?
Patients who are around the age of 40 or above are considered to be better candidates for a hair transplant. Younger patients may not know the cause, severity, or pattern of their hair loss to determine the transplant procedure.
Is The Hair Transplant Painful?
The area will be numbed prior to your treatment. You'll likely feel pain or soreness at the transplant site as well as in the area where hair was taken from. For the next few days, your surgeon may prescribe pain medications. However, pain occurs more so in hair transplantation performed with FUT (follicular unit transplant). Because due to the transection of peripheral nerves during strip harvesting.
How Long Is The Hair Loss Treatment?
Depending on the number of grafts, the treatment can take anywhere from 4-10 hours. The number of treatments will depend on your unique circumstances, this will be determined during your consultation to attain desirable results.
What Should I Do After The Hair Transplant Treatment?
Immediately after your treatment, the surgeon will ensure that the new grafts are secure and in their proper position. They will thoroughly rinse the treated areas and a light protective dressing may be applied. You will be given detailed instructions about how to care for the grafts when you go home, including any recommended shampoos, topical antiseptics, or hair care products. Because there is no incision, there is no need to get any sutures removed.
Who Is A Good Candidate For Hair Transplant?
Typically, men whose hair loss has progressed above class 3 on the Norwood Scale are the best candidates for hair transplant surgery, as long as their pattern has stabilised. If your hair loss has been progressing for five years, you are probably also a good candidate. Because a hair transplant is performed by taking hair follicles from one part of the scalp and transplanting them to another, those who have not had hair since birth are not candidates for surgery.
Where will the Hair Transplant take place?
The treatment will occur in our London clinic, by our surgeon and his team. The clinic and our medical team follow all the UK safety standards to perform surgical treatments.
