Laser acne scar removal is a non-surgical method of removing the scars that remain following bouts of acne. If you have acne scars on your face or body it can have a seriously detrimental effect on your self-confidence, laser allows these to be reduced safely and quickly.

Technical Details

Acne scar removal works by pulsing laser light into the scar tissue to break it down, whilst simultaneously stimulating new, healthy tissue to form in its place. This combination is fast and effective for reducing acne scars and improving the overall health of the skin. We have two very effective lasers for treating acne scars, the PicoWay Resolve and Icon.

The PicoWay Resolve laser fires out light in picoseconds (one trillionth of a second) and features both 532nm and 1064nm wavelengths (nm is a measurement of wavelength which is a billion times smaller than a meter), making it adjustable for different skin types and different types of acne scars, both shallow and deep.

The Icon fractional, non-ablative laser is an FDA approved laser for acne scar removal. The various Microlenses allow for customized treatments; the XF Microlens for high speed, quick treatment sessions or the XD Microlens for deeper penetration to reach tough deeper scars.

Laser acne scar removal can also be used on surgical scars anywhere on the body, including the face. The procedure and technique works in the same way, helping you to get rid of any unsightly scars.

What You Will See

You will experience redness and swelling on the area that was treated, that usually lasts for a couple of days following the session. This redness and swelling will then return to normal.

You can expect to see an overall improvement in the tone and texture of the scar that improves gradually with each treatment, as the scar tissue diminishes and the new healthier tissue comes through.

For the first 24 hours make-up should not be applied over a treated are and you need to keep the area covered up between treatments (or use sunscreen as needed). You need to avoid heat such as hot baths, saunas or steam rooms.

Length of Treatment

A course of treatments is required to see desired results. This is usually between 4-8 treatments. At your initial consultation, an acne scar removal technician can give you a personal estimate.

Between treatments a gap of 4-6 weeks is required to allow your skin to recover and react to the laser treatment. The total treatment is therefore usually completed within 8 months.

Duration of Treatment

The treatment time varies depending on the size of the area affected. On average treating the face, an individual treatment will take as little as 30 minutes.
