Laser Hair Removal London Treatments
Laser hair removal is our most popular treatment for men and women, we only use the latest laser technology to allow us to achieve the best result on your hair and skin type combination. With two laser systems on offer, we can tailor the treatment to suit your needs.
Many of us have varying skin tones and hair across our body, which is why we have trained our practitioners to the highest level, to allow them to select the most accurate settings for you. Unlike other clinics in the UK we conduct regular treatment reviews to make sure the settings are still on track as your hair changes colour and density.
Having treated over 300,000 clients in London alone, our expertise reaches far and wide, with many of our clients travelling from Europe for laser hair removal treatments with us.
How Laser Hair Removal Works
Laser hair removal uses an intense beam of light that selectively destroys the hair follicles by targeting the melanin (colour) in the hair and thereby eliminating the root and blood flow to the hair at the base of the hair follicle.
The Alexandrite and Nd:Yag lasers are damaging the follicle enough to reduce hair regrowth significantly; whilst leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected. During the treatment, you will feel a slight, hot pricking sensation in the treated area; this is the heat hitting the hair root and destroying the blood flow feeding the root.
Hair in the Anaphase of the hair growth cycle will be killed permanently at each session, which equates to around 10% of your hair! This is because it is attached to the root at the time of the treatment. Don’t worry the rest of the hair will still be damaged and fall out within 2 weeks, leaving you hair free between your treatments! The damaged hair that grows back will be lighter and finer than before, reducing the chance of ingrown hairs.
Our state-of-the-art cooling system, which is attached to the laser, blows cold air throughout the treatment to make your experience more comfortable. Following your treatment, there may be slight redness and little bumps for a few hours, you will be provided with cooling aloe vera gel to apply and you can keep applying this at home.
Laser Hair Removal Consultation
Before starting your laser hair removal journey, we will conduct a free consultation with one of our experienced and highly trained consultants. During the consultation, the consultant will explain the process to you and decide which laser will be used. They will test the appropriate settings on each area and answer any questions or concerns you may have. They will also tailor your treatment plan and help you decide the best time to start your journey based on any tan you may already have or future holidays you may need your consultant to work around.
The skin test will ensure you are suitable for laser hair removal (95% are eligible) as well as give you an idea of how the treatment will feel. The laser consultant will then advise you on the best course of treatments to achieve your goal. We typically recommend 8 sessions if you are new to laser hair removal. The body sessions will initially be every 6-8 weeks and the face every 3-4 weeks. Thankfully once you reach maintenance sessions your treatments will be a lot more sporadic, this makes tanning less of an issue! Our FAQs section below covers many of the aspects covered in the consultation. Following the consultation, if you choose to go ahead, you can start the treatment from as early as 48 hours later.
Following a laser hair removal treatment
The skin may be red immediately after the treatment, and the hair follicles where the skin has been treated may be raised and bumpy, this usually subsides within a few hours but can take up to 48 hours for some clients. Very few people experience itching a few days later as the hair is pushed out, antihistamines and steroid cream, as well as keeping the skin cool can easily alleviate this.
Following a laser hair removal treatment, the hair growth slows considerably. It usually takes 2-3 weeks, at which point the dead hair will fall out. Leaving you hair free until just before your next appointment! New hair follicles will then grow, which are finer and more manageable. After the second laser treatment, depending on skin and hair type, the area can already begin to look patchy as certain hair follicles empty. After 4-6 treatments, the hair should be significantly reduced, and after eight sessions, we can achieve up to 80% reduction on coarse hair; results may vary from person to person.
The main benefits of laser hair removal
Laser hair removal is the most effective method for achieving permanent reduction. After 6-8 sessions, you can achieve up to a 80% reduction. Compared to a lifetime of shaving or waxing, laser hair removal is an investment and more economical in the long run.
The laser is also extremely effective at treating ingrown hairs. After 2-4 sessions, you will notice a significant, if not complete, removal of ingrown hairs. The bumps, redness and skin pigmentation caused by ingrown hairs will also clear up, leaving the skin clearer, brighter and smoother.

Laser Hair Removal Frequently Asked Questions
How permanent is laser hair removal?
Most clients will get up to 80 % hair reduction with the recommended course and top up treatments as long as the interval is maintained.
What are the negatives of laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal destroys the hair follicles on the targeted area. The skin reacts to this, and typically people present irritation and redness in the treated area. After the treatment, the skin might be tender and feel a tingle or may appear a slight swell. However, these side effects are temporary.
Is getting laser hair removal worth it?
If you sum up the amount you spend on razors or bikini wax courses in your life, it might be worth £93-£300 per session for hair removal with laser. So consider laser hair removal as a beauty investment. Always chose a clinic that provides the latest technology lasers and the treatment performed by a trained technician to avoid burns or scars on the skin.
How long does hair removal laser last?
Laser hair removal is considered a permanent solution with up to 80% reduction, although the hair eventually will grow but thinner and not in the same volume as it used. The average touch-ups are one to four times a year, depending on individual needs and skin condition.
Will one session of laser hair removal make a difference?
This depends on the type of hair growth the patient has. With normal hair growth could achieve between 10% to 20% of hair reduction in the first session, but people with PCOS hirsutism could see less reduction. Following the laser hair removal treatments, most patients do see hair reduction, which is up to 80% and sometimes even more.
What happens if you don't shave before laser hair removal?
In some cases, we ask clients not to shave a particular area so we can see where the specific hair growth is. We would then shave it off at the clinic, but in most cases, we require all clients to fully shave the area to be treated as the laser needs the full focus of its energy right through the hair follicles and also needs to impact the bulb of the hairs. If the hair is on the skin's surface, it is not suitable to treat over that hair without shaving as it is less effective, more of a risk to the skin, and it will be much more painful for the client.
Do you shave before laser removal?
Yes of course on the body! On the face we request you leave the area between sessions so we can closely monitor the progress for you and use the best settings as the hair can get very light and thin quickly. The body is fine to shave if you see any growth.
Is laser hair removal expensive in the UK?
Laser hair removal in London and the UK can range depending on a few aspects. The first is the size of the treated area from face to underarms, bikini and legs; the size varies. The larger the area is, the longer will take to reduce hair follicles.
The second aspect is how sensitive the area is. The sensitive areas require more delicate and detailed treatments, like the face, arms, and bikini areas; this is to avoid producing hair stimulation or any unwanted pigmentation.
Generally, the cost in the UK is fairly priced for laser hair removal treatments, and at Pulse Light Clinic, we always provide reasonable offers but also finance options that someone can pay in twelve instalments and get the best laser hair removal London treatments from experienced practitioners.
Will NHS pay for laser hair removal?
The NHS may provide support for Laser Hair Removal, particularly for cases of unusually severe conditions. In such instances, the local Exceptional Funding Panel could consider funding the treatment. If you lack the required diagnosis for NHS support, at Pulse Light Clinic, we offer 0% finance options on our treatment packages.
Is laser hair removal permanent painful?
There can be some mild discomfort during laser hair removal treatment but it is often described as having an elastic band pinged against the skin.
The heat only hits the hair not the entire skin like waxing does, so most clients find laser a lot less painful and faster per session than waxing! As we destroy more hair it will become less painful!
How much does laser cost in London?
As mentioned above, laser hair removal permanently reduces the hair up to 80%, the truth is to be more affordable than waxing in the long run - however, it will, of course, look costly rather than spread out over a long period like monthly waxing is. At Pulse Light Clinic, we have competitive prices, we also do regular discounts, or you can spread the cost into twelve monthly instalments with our 0% finance option.
How long does it take to remove hair from laser?
Each area can vary depending on what body part you are planning to treat. For example, underarms can take 10 minutes, and half arms or lower legs from 20 minutes, full back and shoulders from 45 mins to full body which can take 2 hours.
How many sessions does laser hair removal take?
Usually between 8 sessions will get you up to 80% reduction of hair growth, this is mostly dependent on the area. For instance, lower legs usually require 8 sessions whereas the face requires 16-30 and sometimes more. All areas need top-up sessions to finish the areas off.
When you have completed 8 sessions you can book for a free review to help us to guide you how many more sessions you will need on each area and the frequency of the to ups. You will not maintain the result if you do not do the to up sessions at the end!
Are three sessions of laser hair removal enough?
This depends on the person's needs, although many notice long-term results with 6 to 8 treatments. Once someone completes the courses will enjoy hair-less and soft skin.
Is laser hair removal suitable for darker skin types?
Yes, laser hair removal is suitable for darker skin types. We use the ND: Yag laser for Asian and Black skin. This laser penetrates deeper than most lasers, missing the upper layers of skin where the skin pigment lies, therefore it is one of the safest lasers on the market for laser hair removal and side effects are very low!
Why is my hair still growing after laser hair removal?
Immediately after one laser treatment, the hair still sits inside the follicles and then over the course of around 2 weeks, the hairs push out the follicles as if still growing, but then they shed out the follicles completely.
If the hair is still growing after your recommended package, you would need to follow up with top-up treatments to weaken further the hairs' roots and the environment that grows them. Laser hair removal is not always 100% everything gone forever, so top-ups are recommended for the finer remaining hairs.
How soon after my course will I need top ups?
To answer this you will need to book a free review after your course is complete. The best time to book your review is 12 weeks after the final session on the body or 6 weeks on the face.
Most clients are aware from the consultation that the upper body has more hair follicles so it's usually best to start the second course of laser on the upper body/face straight after the first course finishes for optimum results.
Can I use hair removal cream instead of shaving before my laser?
Yes you can just leave 3 days before the appointment as hair removal creams can make the skin very sensitive. You must check the night before the session that there is no hair on the surface of the skin you will be having lasered or you will need to run over the area with a razor!
Can I bleach my face hair between sessions?
We prefer you not to do this as we do like to see the regrowth on the face at each session. However, if you have left a bigger interval, been in the sun and can’t have treatment for any reason then yes you can bleach. The hair is shaved off at the appointment so it won't affect your treatment. Please do not bleach 1 week before your session as your skin may be too sensitive to laser!
My hair is really thick and dark, will I need a lot more sessions?
No, the thicker and darker the hair the better for laser! If you have hormonal hair you will still see great results, but more frequent top-ups will be needed.
Can I tan between sessions?
Do not use sunbeds if you are having laser hair removal it can increase chances of side effects dramatically! Fake tan can be used up to 3 weeks prior to the next session but must all be removed or we will have to rebook your appointment. If you tan in the sun you will have to exfoliate the skin you are having treated and re book for a skin test.
We will not treat sun tanned skin. You must be at your natural skin tone for every session. If you tan easily, you need to be more cautious as it can affect the frequency of your treatments and therefore the results.
How many laser treatments are needed for a full Brazilian?
We recommend that a client starts with 8 treatments for any body area and then potentially do top-up treatments afterwards for the remaining hair growth. In some cases, clients do not have much hair growth left on the top area of the bikini line and they do not need to follow up sessions in that area, but to start with 8 sessions is vital.
How long until the hair falls out after laser hair removal?
After performing Laser Hair Removal, hairs start to fall out between 5 to 30 days. You can help hairs to fall out with a scrub product.
How do I remove dead hair after hair removal with laser?
Between 5-30 days following the Laser Hair Removal session, shedding of the hair may happen & it might seem like new hair growth. However, that's not the case; actually, it's dead hair making its way out of the follicle. A washcloth or exfoliation could support the hair to come out quicker.
Do celebrities get hair laser removal?
Celebrities always are being followed by the British paparazzi on the red carpet or even on private moments. They absolutely do not want underarms or bikini hair to be presented in photos; therefore, Laser Hair Removal for London celebrities is a must.
Is Brazilian bikini laser hair removal embarrassing?
Most women do get flustered about laser hair removal on their Brazilian bikini area, which is entirely normal. Yet, treatments in this intimate area may feel a little intimidating, to begin with. However, our practitioners are always discreet and well trained to provide the best customer experience, and our clients enjoy their journey with Pulse Light Clinic.
Is laser hair removal cancerous?
Laser hair removal treatment hasn't been associated with skin cancer. Actually, some of the procedures being used to treat precancerous lesions involve lasers. The machine produces minimal radiation when treating laser hair removal or other laser skin procedures, and only to the skin surface.
Which laser hair removal is best UK?
Many options are available in the UK market, but the most efficient is the actual lasers that beam light directly to the hair follicle. IPL machines are flashing light to the hair, and they haven't been proved as efficient as laser machines for many reasons, with most important, they are not suitable for all skin types. Our clinics use the best medically graded laser hair removal machines, Alexandrite for fair skin types and Nd: Yag for darker tones. Our significant experience in lasers has identified that they are quick machines, producing excellent results with minimum discomfort and reducing hair up to 80%.
