Laser hair removal is the only permanent way to get rid of unwanted body hair, but the idea of it can make people a little nervous. But take your time, choose the right clinic/technician and you’ll be golden.
Of course, the first thing to do is to decide who’ll be in charge of the laser. It’s important to remember that unlike plucking or waxing, laser hair removal is a medical procedure that requires all sorts of training and qualifications. Never book with a technician who can’t prove they’ve earned them.
So where can you get lasered? Most places, actually; the treatment is suitable for parts of the body including legs, arms, underarms, face, bottom and bikini line. Even the most sensitive skin can be lasered without being damaged; it’s a pretty precise procedure, you know.
One possible downside is that prior to treatment you may have to get a little more hirsute than usual; its recommended that you avoid plucking or waxing for at least six weeks before getting zapped. You can shave, of course, you just can’t yank any hair out from the roots. You should also shave just before the procedure as this helps the laser.
You may, of course, feel a little bit of pain during your procedure. Fortunately, your laser-er should have plenty of cooling or numbing creams available to help you out if it gets too much – just ask.
While laser hair removal is permanent, you will need more than one session before you’re fuzz-free; how many depends on the thickness, location and colour of the hair.
