Laser stretch mark removal is a non-ablative, non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that can improve the appearance of your skin in just a few easy treatments. In just a short amount of time redness or whiteness can be reduced and stretch marks smoothed out.
The Icon fractional laser used for this treatment is the only FDA approved laser on the market for stretch mark removal. It is perfect for deeper penetration and removal of deep stretch marks.
Laser stretch mark removal works using fractional laser technology, it sends short pulses of laser energy into the scar tissue which causes it to break down. Simultaneously the laser stimulates your cells to produce new collagen. The new collagen helps to rebuild your skin and regain the healthy elasticity that it should have.
Together this smooths out the appearance of the skin and reduces discolouration. As you have each treatment the stretch mark will gradually fade away as newer healthier skin replaces it.
What You Will See
It is usual to see some redness and swelling on the area treated and the stretch marks themselves to be very prominent, this is a good indicator. For most people this will be gone within 48 hours.
You need to keep the area having been treated for stretch mark removal covered up when in the sun for the next four weeks. You also want to avoid heat such as hot baths, saunas or steam rooms.
Length of Treatment
It takes on average between 2-6 sessions to see a great result from laser stretch mark removal. Due to the techniques used in the laser treatment, the observable changes are gradual and there can be changes happening up to 6 months following your treatment, because of the increase of collagen production.
It is recommended that you have about 6 weeks between treatments to give your skin time to recover and react to each laser treatment. Therefore, a full course of treatments usually takes about 8 months.
Duration of Treatment
Each individual treatment is quite fast and often takes only a matter of minutes, as you are treating a very localised area and you only need to make between 3-6 passes with the laser. This will vary depending on the size of the area to be treated.
