Laser tattoo removal is a non-surgical and non-invasive fast method of removing unwanted tattoos. Unwanted tattoos can be frustrating or even depressing to have on your body. Laser tattoo removal unlocks the secret to fast and easy tattoo removal.
Laser tattoo removal works by firing laser light into the tattoo which breaks the ink into tiny pieces, these little pieces are easy for the body to absorb. This allows the ink to be removed from the body itself. There is a range of different lasers available for laser tattoo removal, with different levels of effectiveness on different colours of ink and skin type.
The PicoSure and PicoWay tattoo removal lasers that we use, use photo-mechanical principles as opposed to photo-thermal alone, combined with ultra-short pulses, called pico-seconds (one trillionth of a second) to shatter the ink into minute particles which your body then eliminates itself. This powerful process means the whole tattoo including green and blue inks can be erased in as little as 4-8 treatments.
The PicoSure and PicoWay lasers are very similar but made by different companies. The PicoSure laser is produced by CynoSure and the PicoWay is produced by Syneron Candela. There are some mechanical differences, but the only real difference to you is that the PicoWay laser is suitable for darker skin and the PicoSure is not.
What You Will See
During a PicoSure/PicoWay treatment, the laser will be focused over the tattoo with some cool air blowing. The practitioner will take the laser over the tattoo a few times and you may see your tattoo turn white or red, the tattoo will then be wrapped in gauze.
Some people will experience darkening of the skin due to inflammation, the area itching, or feeling like a minor sunburn that hurts if chafed. For most people, these reactions are short-lived, minimal and to be expected. Aloe Vera can be applied to help cool and sooth the area if needed.
Length of Treatment
The average time to remove a tattoo using either the PicoSure or PicoWay laser is about 4-8 treatments. Treatments are done with gaps of 4-8 weeks between appointments. Therefore, a full course of treatments may on average take 9 months. However, this does vary for each client and their tattoo, as different factors such as ink type and colour, skin type, and age and location of the tattoo play a role.
Duration of Treatment
The length of time of each treatment will vary wildly depending on the size of the tattoo. From as little as minutes for a small symbol to an hour for a full sleeve.
