Why Choose Laser Tattoo Removal?
Most other methods for removal are damaging to the skin and are rarely effective at clearing ink. Although lasers carry risks, they are rarely permanent and will only be minor. Good aftercare, and no sun between sessions will minimise these laser side effects.
TCA, dermabrasion, salabrasion and tattoo removal creams will not work effectively, as they will only penetrate the superficial layers in the skin – the epidermis, proving to be futile when ink actually sits in the dermis. The constant irritation leads to skin damage and if any ink is lifted to the surface to form a scab, it will only be from the epidermis- which is the easiest place to remove the layers of ink. This will leave the rest of the tattoo untouched.
The only viable option left is excision – minor surgery, of course this is a fast solution and removes the tattoo instantly, but it is drastic and will leave a permanent surgical scar, with a long healing time, and high risk of infection.

The RevLite Laser
All our lasers will all target the pigment in the ink rather than the skin and break the particles of ink into smaller fragments that your body can easily absorb and release into the bloodstream layer by layer. Ink typically sits in around 12 layers of ink in the skin and the RevLite will target one layer at a time. This means an average of 12 sessions. The intervals begin at 6 weeks and progress to 12 weeks, where they stay until the inks are gone. In comparison the Picosecond lasers require an average of 6 sessions with 8 week intervals.
In certain cases, we may advise that you begin with the RevLite laser and progress on to the Picoway laser. This might be so that we can use lower energies on shading and avoid unnecessary chances of pigmentation from stronger lasers on lighter easier to remove ink.
The RevLite Photoacoustic Technology Pulse (PTP), allows for a very safe delivery of Q-switch lasers as high energy pulses remain concentrated at the targeted ink pigment. Allowing for less heat in the surrounding tissue, reducing side effects. The unique ability to amend both the size and energy of the laser to as little as 0.1 micro adjustments allows your practitioner to provide a more tailored and targeted tattoo session. This ability is unique to the RevLite and allows for more accurate treatment of the ink – minimising the chances of interference with surrounding skin. This is great for clients that have black skin type 5 and 6.
Occasionally, some clients may have a stronger reaction to a picosecond laser, this is another reason why we always conduct a skin test before conducting a full session. Having alternative lasers is helpful in this case so that our experienced practitioners can provide other laser solutions when needed.
Coloured Ink Removal
At Pulse Light Clinic we can remove ALL ink colours effectively. Our RevLite has the ability to remove red ink with our 532nm hand piece. We also have this ability with our state of the art Picoway laser.
We can also use the RevLite for green and blue with the 585/650 nm wavelength. However, with over 4 lasers machine choices here at the clinic, we would typically opt for coloured ink removal with our pico lasers for faster results.
Much of the information online is still geared to the Q-switch laser tattoo removal devices, which is outdated. With advancements in Picosecond technology in recent years, with the likes of the Picosure and Picoway lasers, coloured ink on lighter skin is now even faster to remove than black ink.
The R20 Method for Laser Tattoo Removal
Using a Q- switch laser, this procedure is where multiple passes of 4 are conducted over the same black tattoo on the same day with 20 minute intervals. It was quite a debated method when first introduced back in 2012. The client would wait for the frosting/whitening to fade, cool the area, then retreat it in the hope more ink will be destroyed. It was a small case study used for this initial experiment of 12 and the risk of permanent scarring or discoloration was found to be high when carried out more widely. Fortunately, the same year the first Picosecond laser was introduced, which are faster and carry far less risks than this method. Therefore this is not something we choose to offer at Pulse Light Clinic.
