Laser Tattoo Removal Cover Ups London

Many of our clients come in with a change of minds about their tattoos for all sorts of reasons and want to either get rid of it completely or fade it for a cover-up. Even though the love of tattoos remains strong even if they do not like the tattoo design they chose many years ago, so having a cover-up rather than complete removal is preferable.

Depending on the size and depth of tattoo one thing that can do a lot to help is having the original tattoo faded with laser tattoo removal. If the aim is not to remove it completely but to fade the darkest or most undesired areas (e.g. bright colours) in order to get a cover-up then this can be a really cost-effective and sensible way to achieve exactly what is wanted with the new tattoo work of art.

Tattoo removal is defined as any method of removing a tattoo from the skin. There is a wide range of tattoo removal methods out there including dermabrasion (scrubbing off layers of the skin), TCA (which is an acid which removes layers of skin), excision (cutting the tattoo out) and of course laser (using energy to break down the ink particles.

Laser tattoo removal works by firing laser light into the tattoo which breaks the ink into tiny pieces, these little pieces are easy for the body to absorb. This allows the ink to be removed from the body itself. Laser tattoo removal avoids damaging the skin while removing the tattoo, unlike other tattoo removal methods.

Traditional lasers have been around for a while but the newer PicoSure & PicoWay lasers are a breakthrough in laser tattoo removal.

Some of the benefits of Picosure & PicoWay laser tattoo removal:

  • Less painful treatments
  • Effective on all colours of the tattoo, even greens, and blues
  • Fewer treatments required; the tattoo can be faded in as little as 1-6 treatments.

Step by Step Laser Tattoo Removal Cover Up

Step 1 - Booking in your free consultation & patch test

The first thing to do is book yourself for a free consultation and patch test via telephone, online booking or walk in.

We are open Monday to Friday 10 am till 8pm across Bank and Oxford Street clinics. On the weekends the Bank Clinic is open from 10am till 5pm. Our Oxford Street Clinic is open only on Saturday from 10am till 5pm.

Step 2 - Your Consultation and Patch Test

At your consultation and patch test, you will be seen by one of our senior technicians who will do a very quick assessment of your skin and tattoo to see if you are suitable for laser tattoo removal followed by a patch test.

The senior technician will answer all your questions and discuss your tattoo removal cover up treatment and price plans accordingly to your decision.

The length of your consultation will take between 15 - 20 minutes depending on your questions.

Step 3 - Your first laser tattoo removal treatment and how many

Prior to your first treatment, you can either apply a number cream or leave the treated area clean.
The amount of sessions depends on the depth of ink and scale of your tattoo which will be discussed at your consultation.

Step 4 - The length between treatments

The length between treatments is usually 8-12 weeks which your senior technician will discuss with you. Depending on how much you would like to fade the tattoo so it is ready for the cover up could also reduce the number of treatments required depending on your results.

Step 5 - Having the cover-up

After your desired laser tattoo removal is complete you will usually have to wait a minimum of 6-12 weeks in order to take advantage of the fading and healing.

Is Laser Tattoo Removal necessary when I am having a cover-up?

To ensure you are truly happy with your new tattoo for years to come it is ideal to get rid of as much of the old one as possible, and you can do this quickly and effectively thanks to Pico Lasers. Without tattoo removal, depending on your tattoos ink depth and shading you may run the risk of having the existing artwork show through.
Removing the ink completely or significantly fading it with laser tattoo removal, you and your tattoo artist will be able to work on a clean slate, allowing more flexibility and creativity with the new tattoo and your desired art.
